Department of Kriya Sharir

Kriya Sharir (Human Physiology) is one of the important subjects of the FYBAMS program for the UG students of Ayurveda. The ayurvedic graduates learn the Kriya Sharir subject in their first year. The term “Sharir” means ‘in the Sharir (body) ’ or ‘related to the Sharir’. Kriya Sharir mainly deals with the study of the Deha (human body) mainly with respect to its functioning aspects and its physiological norms i.e. the functioning of the various systems of human body in its normal state. This subject also covers the conceptual considerations by referring to the modern physiology and biochemistry of contemporary medical science.

As per Ayurveda, the Swasthya i.e. health of an individual is based on 3 pillars of the body i.e., Dosha, Dhatu & Mala. Kriya Sharir subject mainly deals with these 3 components of the body. It is very important to critically understand the basic concepts, knowledge, and applicability of Tridosha (Vata, Pitta, Kapha), Seven Dhatus (Rasa, Rakta, Mamsa, Meda, Asthi, Majja, Shukra), and Trimala (Mutra, Purisha, Sweda) to understand the Vyadhis i.e. disease. Kriya Sharir also comprehends with concepts like Prakriti, Strotas, Kostha, Agni, Oja, Mana, Aahara (Basic principles of food), Shatkriyakala, the system-wise study of contemporary science, functions of sensory organs and their dysfunctions etc. All these fundamental concepts are essential for the proper understanding of etiopathogenesis, diagnosis of disease, and its management.

For these all things, the department of Kriya Sharir is spacious with a huge area of 75.90 sq meters, well equipped with latest best quality instruments and equipments , well structured and well ventilated, and importantly supported by excellent staff to offer conceptual teaching-learning processes. The department is also having a perfect laboratory providing a vast area to conduct the various laboratory practices and various other activities of the kriya sharir.

As per the new curriculum of Kriya Sharir, designed by NCISM, New Delhi, Department also adheres to consider taxonomy and educational domains: cognitive, affective, and psychomotor. Keeping these domains into mind, Department adopts for newer and advanced T-L Techniques like group discussions, role play, flipped the classroom, workshops, Problem based learning, Case based learning, ECL- Early Clinical Exposure and activities beyond the textbooks during the practical hours like charts preparation , model makings, seminars and student presentations. Trending and advanced assessment methods like OSPE, PBL, DOPS, CBD, skill assessment, etc are also timely incorporated by the Department. The department of Kriya Sharir sticks to the main aim of the curriculum, i.e. to highlight the basic knowledge and to give a new scientific approach to undergraduate students to develop their skills of Ayurveda and make them competent to apply them in clinical practice and researches of Ayurveda.
